OVERVIEW
Is the best for acclimatization prior to Kilimanjaro climbing; It is the third highest peak in Africa and the second-highest Peak in Tanzania at 4,566m.
The mountain is located within Tanzania’s gem. The prime location gives trekkers the chance to spot some of the wildlife that inhabits the area. Ascend is quite steep, the route to the summit passes over streams, through parkland, montane forest, a giant heather zone, and moorland. Summit is reached by a narrow, barren ridge, which provides spectacular views of the Ash Cone lying several thousand feet below the crater.
You will be transferred to Pazuri Inn or Similar (bb/bed and breakfast) in Arusha and after short briefing you will have time to prepare and rest before the trek.
Drive from the Hotel in Arusha to Momela Gate. After a short registration at the Gate, our walk will begin with a full armed ranger escorting us, simply we can see along the way the wild animals including Buffalo, zebras, and giraffe, monkeys, antelope, and often elephants along the route.
Momela Gate to Miriakamba Hut (2500 m.): 5-7 hours walking.
Dinner and overnight at: Miriakamba Hut.
Walk from Miriakamba Hut to the saddle below Little Meru is a short day but a steep climb. The walk will take us slowly along the ridge for a spectacular view of the Meru Crater and the inspiring Ash Cone. After hot lunch at Saddle Hut, we can make a short climb to the summit of Little Meru (3,820m) for outstanding views just before sunset.
Miriakamba Hut to Saddle Hut (3500 m.): 3-5 hours walking.
Dinner and overnight at: Saddle Hut.
We start early at around 1:30 a.m. to climb steeply to Rhino Point (3,800 m.) and on to Cobra Point (4350m). Reach the summit (4,566 m) on time for sunrise there is a possibility to see Kilimanjaro Peak above the clouds. Final part of the climb is along a spectacular narrow ridgeline between the sheer inner cliffs and the sloping outer wall of the crater.
Take a short rest and brunch food at Saddle Hut before continuing the descent to the Momella gate. Returning transfer vehicle will be waiting at Momella Gate to Arusha at overnight at the hotel. Saddle Hut to the summit to Momella Gate will be 12-14 hours walking.
Overnight at: Pazuri Inn or Similar (full board).
